Contra Costa Contract Negotiations Continue
Our Contra Costa chapter’s bargaining team has been at the table for the last three months. They recently proposed a salary increase for the unit which, if agreed to, would be the first wage increase County mid-managers and professionals receive since joining the union in 2009. Year after year, cuts and concessions have pushed members to draw the line and demand improvements to wages and working conditions. In addition to proposing a fair wage increase, the team has also prioritized a cap to employees’ healthcare costs and equity adjustments to address lagging and compacted salaries.
Bargaining team leaders and union staff have met with members of the Board of Supervisors to explain the issues impacting our members. Although it is too early to predict whether County Supervisors will support the union’s proposals, elected officials have acknowledged Local 21 members’ sacrifices. The bargaining team has sessions scheduled through August, after which members will decide if escalating actions will be necessary.
