January Oakland Bulletin: MLK Message, Bargaining Survey, Women's Rally

Click here for our first Bulletin of 2017. This 10-page Bulletin has a lot of great information, from our State of our Union article by Oakland Vice President Renee Sykes to information about Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and the important role his support meant for the Labor Movement.

There are also action items in this Bulletin:

  • Our Contract Bargaining Survey will go out to all members in Oakland and it is crucial that we get members’ feedback on their priorities to guide our bargaining team.
  • Another action item coming up soon is our organizing meeting for our Contract Action Team (CAT). Our CAT is the eyes and ears of our Union and play a vital role relaying information from the bargaining table back to the membership and will gather information for our team at the table, lead us in actions, and more. The meeting is Wednesday, January 18, at noon in Hearing Room 3 of City Hall. Please RSVP to subha@ifpte21.orgif you would like to participate in this important committee.
  • And lastly, around the nation Women (and Union brothers that support the women in their lives at work and at home) will hold rallys in protest of the threats to women, communities of color and our most vulnerable under the new administration in Washington and our new Congress. The Women’s Rally Oakland will be Saturday, January 21, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and some of the details are being worked out so if you are interested, please email subha@ifpte21.org and more information will be sent to you next week.

2017 will be a year of action, between our contract negotiations, actions taken to thwart the planned cuts to public service from DC and more so this is the time to get stand together with other members to make a better Oakland.
