MOU Implementation Updates -- May Oakland Bulletin

Finalize the MOU
As we mentioned in the last Oakland Bulletin, our new MOU is a merger of three agreements into one. Ana Guzina, Local 21 Research and Legal Specialist, has been working with the City on the project and there are several days that have been set aside to walk through the MOU line by line, every page, and ensure that all the language is correct and accurate. It is our goal that the MOU will be complete by the next Oakland Bulletin and available electronically to every member.

Proposed Infrastructure Improvement Bond Details and Polling Results

As the City of Oakland works on a plan to reorganize and creates a Department of Transportation from the Public Works Department, the biggest question for the City is whether or not the public will support the proposed infrastructure improvement bond measure. Know Your Rights!

04/18/2016

As a Local 21 Member, if you believe you are going into a meeting with your boss that may result in changes to terms and conditions of employment or you have a reasonable belief that it could lead to discipline, you have the right to request a Union Representative be with you in the meeting. It is important to note that YOU must request a Union Rep, management doesn’t have to tell you about this, which is known as “Weingarten Rights.”  This fun, short video, shows Weingarten in action.

Contract Implementation Update

04/18/2016

After a prolonged negotiation to merge our two attorney contracts into our master contract, we have finally reached agreement and can finalize our contract.

Due to the complexity of the merger, we were unable to settle the matter during negotiations and agreed to a side letter to complete the merger after negotiations. The attorney units had met with the City attorney numerous times at a side table during negotiations and reached agreement on most items.
