San Jose chapters get 3 percent wage increases

06/20/2014

AEA, AMSP and CAMP have approved new MOUs. The contracts are for one year and call for a 3 percent wage hike.  We negotiated a side letter to continue dialogue with the City to more quickly restore salaries for classifications that are well below market rate and experiencing high vacancies.

The City needs to work with us to solve recruitment and retention issues. For example, the salary for associate engineers is 12 percent below the average of other Bay Area jurisdictions. The City needs to make more proactive moves to stop large-scale recruitment and retention issues.

06/06/2014

Jim Baker, SCCEAA; Stan Young, Local 21; and Jim Crowley of PMA phone banking in San Jose.

The stage for November has been set, and unofficial election results from June 3 show voters are concerned about San Jose's public safety and ability to employ top-level workers.  Thank you to all Local 21 Members across the Bay Area who got out to talk to voters and supported our outreach efforts.

Implementation of Measure B Delayed Additional Year

05/05/2014

We are pleased to announce that the current order preventing any further implementation of Measure B, which was set to expire on June 30, 2014, has now been extended to June 30, 2015.

All parties in the Measure B litigation agreed to the extension and a new court order putting it into effect was signed by Judge Lucas this week.  This prevents the implementation of even those provisions not found unlawful by Judge Lucas.

Big Win for SCVWD

04/25/2014

ES/PMA/Local 21 won an arbitration against the Santa Clara Valley Water District over retirement contributions.  Arbitrator Matthew Goldberg released his decision April 21 and orders back pay with interest to employees who have erroneously been paying an extra pension contribution.  The victory comes on the heels of AFSCME's December 2013 arbitration win on the same issue.  It's also another Local 21 win in a long string of arbitrations at the District.

Local 21 ‘Talks to Chuck’

02/21/2014

As you know, San Jose Mayor Chuck Reed’s proposed statewide ballot measure for the 2014 or 2016 ballot could make it impossible for us to ever afford to retire.  In response, 31 members of L21 stepped up at the January Delegate Assembly to retire him and his ballot measure for good.  The members, listed below, either increased their donations or made a donation for the first time to the ‘Chuck Reed Retirement Project’ aka Local 21 TJ Anthony Political Action Committee.
