A delegation of Local 21 leaders attended IFPTE’s 57th Convention this past week in Las Vegas, Nevada. The theme for the convention was “Solidarity Works for All of Us,” and focused on building stronger alliances for greater collective strength and action.
Local 21 conducted a workshop for convention goers titled “Bargaining During a Time of Austerity,” which shared strategies Local 21 chapters and the local as a whole have used to mitigate cuts and achieve gains for our members, during the great recession. The workshop addressed both bargaining and organizing strategies, as well as our “21 Unsung Heroes” campaign and use of new media to reach out to members and civic leaders. Local 21 also hosted the Western Regional hospitality night at the convention, where attendees could network and build relationships for future collaborations. Stay tuned for more report backs.
