John Nichols Bio

We all know that these have been turbulent times for labor, very turbulent.  Political writer John Nichols has been on the front lines with some of the most interesting reporting on the Wisconsin uprising last year, the backlash against Wall Street, the Chicago teachers strike and now Proposition 32.  He explains what it means for politics, protest, labor relations, and the media, not just in Wisconsin but nationally.  Expect an insightful, provocative and very engaging analysis.

John is an astute political writer and analyst, Washington correspondent for The Nation magazine, a contributing writer for The Progressive and In These Times, and Associate Editor of the Capital Times, the daily newspaper in Madison, Wisconsin.  Johnsarticles have appeared in the New York Times, Chicago Tribune, and dozens of other newspapers.

John is a frequent guest on radio and television programs as a commentator on politics and media issues. He was featured in Robert Greenwald’s documentary, “Outfoxed,” and in the documentaries such as Joan Sekler’s “Unprecedented,” Matt Kohn’s “Call It Democracy” and Robert Pappas’s “Orwell Rolls in his Grave.” Nichols is also the author of the acclaimed book, Uprising: How Wisconsin Renewed the Politics of Protest from Madison to Wall Street. Nichols incorporates on-the-scene reporting to show the development of last springs mass protests in Wisconsin, after Governor Scott Walker attempted to revoke the collective bargaining rights from teachers and state, county, and municipal workers. Speaking to union leaders, government officials, students, activists, media hosts and more, Nichols chronicled the unprecedented revolt in remarkable detail.
