IFPTE International President Greg Junemann visited Local 21 on Thursday April 21, first attending the April Executive Committee meeting, then appearing as the featured guest at the kickoff for the Local 21 delegation to the 58th IFPTE International Convention (which takes place in Las Vegas this summer from July 27-30th) and then accompanying the Local 21 contingent to the annual San Francisco Labor Federation COPE Banquet at the San Francisco Hilton Hotel where he was introduced as one of the visiting dignitaries.
At the delegation kickoff, Greg shared some information on the upcoming convention, including that it will be held at Bally’s and the list of confirmed speakers, which includes Lee Saunders, President of AFSCME and Liz Schuler, Secretary-Treasurer of the AFL-CIO, among others. Greg also talked about convention procedures, including the committee system, and national issues such as free trade agreements, immigration reform and the H1-B Visa situation, and then took questions from the delegation.
Greg’s comments were enthusiastically received by the delegation, which also greatly enjoyed his folksy charm and his keen insight into current affairs and the national political situation.
