The 60th Convention of the International Federation of Professional & Technical Engineers is scheduled for August 9 -10th and will be a virtual event. Per the IFPTE Local 21 bylaws the 22-person delegation will be made up of the eleven Executive Committee officers recently elected by the general membership and the 11 delegates to be elected.

Candidates shall submit a form to the Convention Election Committee below. Members in good standing of the union may apply. Candidates may also submit a 75-word support statement. The digital form must be submitted no later than 5:00 p.m. on June 16. All 75-word statement must be received by June 18th. These statements will be mailed out with the ballots.

The election will be overseen by the Convention Election Committee, made up of Gus Vallejo, President; Frances Hsieh, VP of Legislative & Political Action; Cheryl Penick, VP of East Bay; Olympia Williams, VP At-Large.

Per Article XVI of the Local 21 Bylaws, the elected delegates will be distributed between the five Local 21 regions* (San Francisco, Oakland, East Bay, South Bay, and At- Large) based on regional allocation determined by the Local 21 Convention Election Committee. The committee utilized the April EC Membership Report to provide geographic balance to the union’s delegation. Delegates will also be elected as proxies so that the union can vote with their full strength at the convention. An alternate will be elected from each region in the situation that the delegate cannot attend. The breakdown is as follows:

A secret ballot will be mailed to each eligible member in good standing at his/her last known mailing address by no later than June 28, 2021 and must be returned to the Local 21 office in San Francisco by no later than 5:00 p.m. on July 16, 2021. Members will cast a vote for the delegate(s) running in their region [only]. Ballots will be counted in the Local 21 office on July 21st. The candidate(s) who receive the highest number of votes in each region will serve as delegates and proxies to the International Convention. Write-in votes are not permitted. [*To be eligible to vote in this election, you must have a completed membership application on file in the San Francisco union office by 5:00 p.m. on June 16.]

No lost time wages will be paid. Each delegate is charged with the responsibility of attending all general membership sessions, workshops, and special committee meetings as assigned. General delegation meetings and workshops are held daily. While at the convention, delegates are expected to conduct non-convention business before or after the sessions.
