The City of San Jose’s Association of Engineers and Architects (AEA) affiliated with Local 21 in 2004 after the City unilaterally froze certain wages and benefits. We are a group of highly skilled professionals dedicated to improving our city.

South Bay Members Celebrate Summer


Nearly 200 Members from Local 21's seven South Bay Chapters rang in the summer at the 6th Annual South Bay BBQ.  Members were treated to tri-tip, chicken sausages, portabella mushrooms, raffle prizes and other picnic goodies.  For the first time in several years, members could celebrate the successful negotiation of contracts, including small pay raises in the City of San Jose.

San Jose Members Overwhelmingly Ratify Retiree Healthcare Agreement


Our three San Jose bargaining units voted overwhelmingly to accept the recently negotiated agreement over retiree healthcare.

The agreement was a compromise on both sides and creates an opportunity to work together moving forward on solving a major issue for our members, as well as the City.

Transportation Authority Engineers and Architects Make Strides at the Bargaining Table


Our chapter at the Valley Transportation Authority (VTA) is bargaining a new contract, and negotiations have been positive so far.

Labor Candidate Cindy Chavez Leads Santa Clara County Supervisor Race


Local 21's endorsed candidate, Cindy Chavez, made a strong first-place showing in a six-way race for the Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors, District 2. Voter turnout for the Special Election on June 4 was 17 percent, and Chavez earned 41 percent of the vote.

6th Annual South Bay BBQ Set for July 18

Long-time water resources professional Scott Akin was recently appointed to the Santa Clara Valley Open Space Authority Citizens Advisory Committee.

Union Wins Sick Leave Payout Suit Against San Jose


In an important and far-reaching decision, a Superior Court judge ruled in favor of Labor and found that the City of San Jose cannot unilaterally, retroactively eliminate Sick Leave payouts for employees who have a vested right to such deferred compensation.
