Bargaining Continues at Valley Transportation Authority

Local 21’s Transportation Authority Engineers and Architects (TAEA) chapteris in the middle of contract negotiations, and hopes to reach a Tentative Agreement soon. Although the Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority’s budget is in the black, the employer is still pushing for concessions.  Most recently, the employer offered a 3 percent wage increase to be filtered toward CalPERS contributions. TAEA negotiators were able to get a 2 percent pay increase on top of that, but the employer continues to bring up a two-tier pension system that would change the benefit formula from 2% at age 55, to 2% at 60 for new hires, which the union is studying the merits of. Two other non-Local 21 units are also at the table.
