City of Hayward Seeking Further Concessions

In 2012, City of Hayward members agreed to 12% in concessions to aid the City in balancing their budget, including relinquishing a 3.5% raise and employer paid deferred compensation while picking up 8% in employee contributions to PERS and an increase in payments for retiree health.

In this round of bargaining, which started on August 5, 2013, the City is thanking members for their sacrifices by seeking further concessions. The City has presented the Union with 50 proposals, with 95% of them calling for substantive language changes. The City’s overall economic proposal includes additional cuts equivalent to 5% in concessions on top of the 12% we have already given up.

SEIU has been at the table since April 2013 where there has been little to no movement. We are standing united with our Brothers and Sisters in SEIU by conducting joint CAT Team meetings and joint community walks to gather signatures of community and business leaders support to present to the Mayor and City Council.
