City Unions Turnout Again for Mayor’s Budget Presentation to Council

Last week, hundreds of City of Oakland Local 21 members joined with our brothers and sisters from SEIU and IBEW to express our anger with the City’s Budget proposal. Members from all three unions rallied outside and then packed Council chambers, telling Council members about the pain the 25% cuts have caused for our families, and the difficulty of delivering services with 800 fewer employees. We made special arrangements to show our second video to the Council members before speaking about the budget and the implications of the proposed cuts. Our message was clear: Enough is Enough!

The City has scheduled a series of Budget Town Halls in May to encourage public input on the proposed budget. We are actively recruiting members to attend meetings in their Districts where we will be continuing to spread our ‘Enough is Enough’ and ‘Public Safety is more than Cops’ messages. We are also holding another Noontime rally on Tuesday, May 14 in the City Hall amphitheater – join us!
