Oakland Members Organize More Rallies As City Asks for Unwarranted Takeaways

Hundreds of Oakland members held another noon rally and spoke out on Tuesday, May 14 to protest health care and pension takeaway proposals the City has put on the bargaining table. Despite the fact that Mayor Quan and City Administrator Santana have presented a balanced budget without any concessions to Council, the City is asking for permanent, structural changes in negotiations. These proposals could cost city workers more over time than the financial impact of the furloughs, which are set to expire this June 30. Our members are clear, "Enough is Enough!" As the City experiences economic recovery, our members should share in the gain.
