Pension Reform Talks Continue in San Jose

Local 21 chapters in the City of San Jose, along with a coalition of city unions, are continuing to meet with the City over pension reform. Our chapter leaders in the San Jose Coalition have worked hard to educate City Council members about the importance of providing us with adequate time to negotiate any reforms. The Coalition crafted a bargaining pledge, and with a few tweaks, city leaders including City Manager Debra Figone, have agreed to sign on. The Council is currently exploring a cash-incentive program to lure current employees into a second-tier pension plan.
