South Bay Chapters Gear Up for Special Election

Expecting a short rest in 2013 from ongoing campaigning, our South Bay chapters are gearing up for a special election for the Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors. The special election is set for June 4 to fill a vacant seat representing east San Jose and unincorporated parts of the county. The race has drawn fervent interest, with six vying for the seat: Cindy Chavez, Executive Director of social justice think-tank Working Partnerships; Teresa Alvarado, Communications Manager at the Santa Clara Valley Water District; Patricia Roach Martinez, School Teacher; David Wall, San Jose city hall gadfly; former Alum Rock Union School District trustee Scott Hung Pham; and Joseph La Jeunesse, a Santa Clara County sheriff's deputy. If necessary, a run-off election will be held July 30. Local 21 will be participating in the South Bay Labor Council’s endorsement interviews and will review our own endorsement of a candidate.
