We are pleased to announce that after more than a year of bargaining with the District, East Bay Municipal Utility District (EBMUD) finally reached an agreement and ratified the new contract this month. The members overwhelmingly voted in favor of the new contract with nearly 80% turnout.
The new Agreement has many economic gains, including equity adjustments for 6 classifications, and increases to cash in lieu, dental insurance contributions, and working out of class compensation.
The most significant part of the deal was wages. The settlement was ratified as follows:
• 4% increase in year 1
• CPI plus .50% with a floor of 2% and a ceiling of 5% for each of the 4 years of the contract.
We were also able to fight proposed concessions on healthcare, and ended up negotiating a new plan in the second year of the contract in lieu of HealthNet that will benefit our members.
We also bargained stronger language for bereavement, grievance procedures, sick leave usage, health flexible spending accounts, and a nondiscrimination clause.
