RICHMOND, CA – On Friday, December 5, 2025, our School Supervisors Association (SSA) IFPTE Local 21 members in West Contra Costa Unified School District (WCCUSD) called for a sympathy strike in solidarity with the United Teachers of Richmond (UTR) and Teamsters Local 856.
Local 21 members joined educators and staff who are fighting for better working conditions and the schools our students deserve. An estimated 3,000 members across three unions were on the picket lines on Friday.
As of December 9, 2025 at the time of this post’s publication, UTR is still fighting for:
- Student centers and investments in school safety
- Protections for international educators
- Increased paraprofessional support for Special Education staff and the most vulnerable students
- Fully funded healthcare for educators and their families
- To secure fair compensation to recruit and retain the staff students deserve.
