Picking Up Momentum for the Overpaid CEO Act

In a union hall packed with volunteers, a signature gathering drive was officially kicked off on December 6 to qualify the “Overpaid CEO Act” for the June 2026 ballot. After a short training, over 150 volunteers hit the streets to collect signatures.

It’s been recently reported that the City’s deficit could reach $1 billion due to the Trump Administration’s federal cuts to Medicaid and other programs. Passing the Overpaid CEO Act is our way forward to protect hospitals, clinics, and all public services in the City.

The Overpaid CEO Act taxes large corporations whose highest-paid executive makes more than 100 times what their median worker earns. Only a handful of the largest corporations pay, not small businesses or working people.

Guest speakers shared their support for the Overpaid CEO Act:

“If we want to support our city in this moment it is even more urgent that we don’t just do it on the backs of the working people of our city, but we actually ask the billionaires and the big corporations to do their part.” — Assemblymember Matt Haney.

“This act is about fairness, the richest people pay their fair share in this city.” — Supervisor Chyanne Chen.

Our kickoff received a lot of attention from local news media, including a segment on KPIX Channel 5 that you can click here to watch. IFPTE Local 21 San Francisco VP Sarah Perez told Channel 5: “Being able to put this measure on the ballot would actually help the community, but also public services that are under attack.”
